Mayor Bud Lacy Recognized as 2004 Leader of the Year
The Leadership Stillwater Alumni Association (LSAA) recognized Mayor Bud Lacy with the Outstanding Leadership Award at their annual meeting on December 9. Criteria for the award are commitment, communication, competence, courage, servant leadership and life-long learning.
Emalee Johnson, LSAA secretary, headed up a subcommittee of the LSAA Board of Directors to develop the new leadership award that will be awarded to a graduate of the Leadership Stillwater Program every year at the LSAA Annual Meeting. Cristy Morrison, LSAA president said, "The selection committee was unanimous in their decision that Bud has utilized his Leadership Stillwater experience to serve in one of the most important leadership positions in a community."
"I have always been an advocate of the Leadership Stillwater Program and continue my dedication as a board member of the LSAA. It is so important that we contribute, through various leadership positions, to continue the growth and prosperity of our communities," said Lacy. "It is through the volunteer involvement and financial support of the LSAA that the Stillwater's Leadership Tomorrow Program and the Leadership Public Speaking Contest at both the High School and Junior High continue their success annually."
Lacy is a graduate of Leadership Stillwater Class VII. He has been a faculty member of the School of Accounting at Oklahoma State University for over 20 years. Lacy has served both our county and our community in a variety of role. He spent 4 years in the United States Marine Corps with one tour in Vietnam where he received two Purple Hearts. Before being elected as Mayor, Lacy served a six-year term on the City Commission, a six-year term on the Stillwater Planning Commission and a five-year term on the City's Audit Committee.
The Leadership Stillwater Alumni Association provides a forum for interaction of the members and to foster leadership for the Stillwater community. Members play a vital role in supporting the Leadership Stillwater program through the Leadership Stillwater Steering Committee and encouraging others to apply for participation in the program. The Leadership Stillwater Alumni Association is also the organization that coordinates and funds the Stillwater's Leadership Tomorrow program for Stillwater High School Juniors and the Leadership Public Speaking Contest at the Stillwater Junior High.
